Barrow's Goldeneye

The Barrow's Goldeneye young often have to make
long journeys to reach the main brood rearing area,
whiz. where the River Laxá flows out of Lake Mývatn.
This area has an enormously rich supply of blackfly larvae.
The adult females are aggressive towards other adult ducks
and defend the best feeding areas.  Each brood territory
has one female and may contain over 100 ducklings.
