Assignment 1

1. Below are a few words/names from the history of the computer. Choose at least 3 of them and write a short description of each one (5-10 lines + picture(?)):

2. Describe in a few words how an abacus is used to add numbers.
3. Read question 1 in "Social Issues" on page 14 in the textbook and write up a few lines on it. Be prepared to discuss this issue in the section.
4. Read question 9 in "Social Issues" on page 14 in the textbook and write up a few lines on it. Be prepared to discuss this issue in the section.
5. Get the program Logisim and draw the flip-flop circuit on figure 1.5 in the textbook. Hand in a picture of your flip-flop circuit.

Hand these exercises in before noon on wednesday september 5th.
