SLC Punk!

SLC PUNK! is a humorous evaluation of a "punk revolution" that occurred in Salt Lake City in 1985. In it, Matthew Lillard takes on the role of Stevo, the rebellious punk who narrates the independent film -- described as a blend of Trainspotting, A Clockwork Orange, and Quadrophenia. Stevo is basically a young punk who just graduated U of U and is going to live the life of an Anarchist. The story goes into the differences at that time between Punks, Rednecks, Mods, Rockers and Newwavers. They just follow these guys around jumping from one episode to the next as Matt narrates. Then, Matt's character starts to question his lifestyle... and aren't we all the same...

SLC Punk was written and directed by James Merendino, produced by Sam Maydew & Peter Ward and distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. It was released in Germany in September of 1998. It's premier in the U.S.A. was at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah on January 22nd and formal release in April the same year.
