Other names: Peter Ridgewell, Petrus armentarius.
I am now retired. For severa years I taught occasonally. Now I am really retired.
I have worked as a building hand in Seaford, a bus conductor in Brighton, a cowman at Hvammur in Hvítársíða, a secondary-school teacher in Neskaupstaður, and a member of the English Department at the University of Iceland. I have been the supervisor of the Language Laboratory in the Faculty of Humanities, Direcrtor of the Institute for Foreign Languages, and Director of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages. I worked for a time as a translator. Nowadays I do a lot of firewood-gathering, which is tricky in Iceland. My eyes are not too good, so I don't mend clocks any more, and I don't get to change nappies much these days.
I am married to Messíana Tómasdóttir. I have one child, three stepchildren, nine grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. I consider myself a lucky man, and am trying to age gracefully.
