Education

2002-2008

University of Iceland — Ph.D. Eng.
Thesis: Acoustic Emission Monitoring of CFRP Laminated Composites Subjected to Multi-Axial Cyclic Loading..

2001-2002

University of Iceland — M.Sc. Mech. Eng.
Thesis: Tabular Reinforcement Learning for Scheduling Problems using Forgetting Mechanisms. The title says it all, reinforcement learning was used to find solutions to scheduling problems. By storing all data in tables a method for dealing with the curse of dimensionality was designed. The method was to forget, hence the name forgetting mechanism. This works very well!

1992-1997

University of Iceland — C.S. Mech. Eng.
Final project: Auxiliary Transmission for Accomodation of Tire Size Change. The transmission removes the need for lower gear ratio in axle housings and also introduces new gear ratios; crawl gears. One can install large tires and simply select the correct gear, instead of manually replacing ring and pinion.

1987-1991

Commercial College of Iceland

Employment

2011-present

University of Iceland
Assistant professor at the department of Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science.

2008-2011

Keilir - Atlantic Center of Excellence
Head of Keilir Institute of Technology

2001-2008

University of Iceland
PhD studies and teaching at the University of Iceland.

2000-2001

Domus Media ehf
ONNO and the advertising agency Nonni og Manni (NM) cofounded Domus Media. Domus Media specialized in web and multimedia programming.

1999-2001

Rafiđnađarskólinn / Margmiđlunarskólinn
ONNO ehf organized and taught web and multimedia courses at Rafiðnaðarskólinn. I personally taught Photoshop and Director.

1996 - 2001

ONNO ehf
Co-founded ONNO ehf with Þórður Magnússon in the summer of '96, we were both starting our last year at the University. ONNO makes 3D vizualizations from
A-Z. In 2001 I sold my part to Þórður and went back to school for an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.

Summers 1993-1996

DNG - Sjóvélar ehf (Vaki - DNG ehf today)
At DNG - Sjóvélar I made production drawings and in the way found ways to improve and simplify some of the products. Made 3D models of products and contacted, Þórður Magnússon, a friend from school, to help me make a vizualisation video for an upcoming trade show.

1989-1992

DNG - Sjóvélar hf
General shop work, i.e. drilling, lathing, MIG/TIG welding, Plasma cutting, lathes, etc.

Summer 1988

Normi / Norm-X

Worked for a very short time at Normi. Was hired to clean around the facilities but, an accident made sure that I stayed at home for the rest of the summer

Summer 1987

Construction Work

Summers 1977-1986

Farm Work
Each summer I was sent to live with my aunt and help around the farm. Very nice memories from that time.

Interests

Cars and all sorts of technical equipment interests me very much. I've been restoring an old '77 911 Porsche for several years now. Just recently I've renewed my interest in playing instruments (after 15 years). I play guitar and the harmonica.
