Welcome to the Sigurdsson Lab!

One might say that we are a radical group, since we work extensively with stable organic radicals. The picture on the right, as an inside cover of Angewante Chemie from one of our papers in 2007, gives a glimpse at the main focus of our group. Specifically, we incorporate modified nucleosides into DNA and RNA that have special properties. Most of these nucleosides are reporter groups for spectroscopic techniques, such as electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy or fluorescence spectroscopy, both of which are useful to learn about the structure and dynamics of nucleic acids. We employ a spectrum of techniques, mainly from organic synthesis, biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics. Please visit the Research page and the Publications page for more information about the research activities and the Research Group page to learn about the members of our group.
