THE ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION OF TEXTURE IN POLYCRYSTALLINE MATERIALS
THROSTUR THORSTEINSSON Abstract:We give a brief overview of the evidence for anisotropy in the mantle, and polycrystalline material in general. The deformation processes of polycrystalline material are discussed from grain scale point of view and those processes related to deformation of aggregates. The constitutive formulation of anisotropic material deforming by dislocation glide is introduced and we show how the development of fabric arises in these formulations. Few examples of interesting things associated with anisotropy and texture are given and their implications discussed. Finally we present a model that we use to calculate deformation and fabric development based Sach's model. The paper in PDF format (263KB)
